SoGEA replaces the traditional broadband and phone line combination with a broadband-only service. It is one of the most common options used to replace PSTN-connected assets and is widely available throughout the UK.
GridSecure can provide the connectivity service itself, but more importantly provides the industrial networking, routing and monitoring capabilities that sit on top of the WAN connection.

SoGEA services typically range from around £30 to £70 per month depending on bandwidth, resilience requirements and supplier. Installation charges can vary depending on the condition of the existing line and any engineering work required.
However, the connectivity service itself is only one part of the overall solution. The operational challenge is connecting legacy field equipment to that service securely and reliably.
Broadband is only the starting point
Purchasing a SoGEA circuit gives you internet access. It does not automatically provide industrial networking, protocol support, secure access or operational monitoring.
Common challenges after installation
The ISP router isn't industrial
Most broadband services terminate on standard business routers designed for office environments rather than plant rooms, substations or remote utility sites.
Legacy equipment often cannot connect
Meters, RTUs, modems and industrial devices frequently require serial interfaces, protocol conversion or specialist routing that standard broadband routers cannot provide.
Site layouts create challenges
The broadband handoff point is often nowhere near the operational equipment, resulting in long Ethernet runs, additional cabinets or power requirements.
Broadband alone provides no visibility
A connectivity service does not normally include operational monitoring, telemetry visibility or fault ownership between multiple suppliers.
